Veterans in franchising.

Sometimes the hardest part of being a member of the military can come after your service comes to an end. Service men and women are trained to stay calm under pressure, follow strict orders, and make great sacrifices; however, the transition back to civilian life often proves to be challenging as well. America’s Swimming Pool Company (ASP) believes that veterans are some of our nation’s greatest assets. The skills and experience they gain from their time in service make former military members excellent candidates for franchise ownership. According to the International Franchise Association (IFA), 15 percent of American franchisees are veterans. Franchise ownership is a great fit for many former soldiers because they have the right mindset for it. If you are in search of a way to earn a living that caters to the skills you learned in the military, ASP has an opportunity for you. We can show you how to start a pool cleaning service that will help you transition back to civilian life and set you up for a bright future.

An Award-Winning Franchise for Veterans

ASP is the leading swimming pool service franchisor in the nation, and we have the awards and recognition to prove it. For the third year in a row, Entrepreneur.com named ASP one of the top U.S. franchises for veterans. Coming in at number 149 this year, ASP continues to provide veterans with the opportunity to take charge in the building and growth of their own pool service business. Entrepreneur formulated the rankings through several deciding factors: ASP submitted the Entrepreneur survey for veterans rankings, was included in the 2019 Franchise 500, and performed well when evaluated for incentives and support for veteran franchisees. ASP was also voted a Top Franchise Opportunity for Veterans by the Franchise Business Review in 2018.

If you want to know how to start a pool cleaning service after your time in the military, a partnership with ASP will get you started on the right path. It is an honor to have veteran franchise owners as part of the ASP team, and we are committed to showing our appreciation and respect for their sacrifices. ASP offers a 15 percent discount off the franchise fee for qualified individuals who have served in the military.

We are also a member of VetFran, an initiative by IFA that aims to encourage and facilitate franchise ownership by veterans. ASP is honored to be part of an organization like VetFran, because it improves the quality of life for veterans by providing them with franchising opportunities as they settle back in to life as civilians. A recent VetFran survey says that since the company was started, over 203,000 veterans (or their spouses) have become franchise business owners. Why Veterans Make Great Franchise Owners

A vet who learns how to start a pool cleaning service with ASP has the potential to run a successful operation. VetFran has helped over 5,600 veterans take advantage of franchise ownership. The company’s website says, “Veteran franchisees are more likely to hire veterans as employees, and 65% of franchisors have indicated that their rate of hiring veterans has increased in recent years.”  So, what is it that makes veterans such great business owners?

  • Work Ethic: Two things that are unacceptable in both the military and the service industry are tardiness and laziness. With a veteran swimming pool franchise owner, customers can always expect the service team to show up on time and ready to work. Furthermore, with specific missions to plan and execute, soldiers are used to working hard every day. Those valuable skills translate well to the pool service business, as many veterans won’t be satisfied until the job is done right, no matter how long it might take.
  • Capacity to Learn: Educating yourself on the franchisor’s systems, strategies, and business models is key to starting off on the right foot. Veterans are able to learn quickly because in the military, they are frequently asked to master a new skill. Learning how to start a pool cleaning service can come easily to someone who is used to that kind of training. An article on Military.com says: “At every level of authority and throughout their military career, military service members are continually learning about their areas of expertise, and being groomed and mentored for the next level of responsibility. A typical soldier in the Army, for example, is expected to be able to perform at a position two levels above his own.”
  • Leadership: Members of the military practice leadership skills daily. Soldiers look up to and respect their officers because they put their squad before themselves. Military leaders are responsible for groups of people as well as equipment. In like manner, franchise owners must be able to maintain control of their service teams to grow their reputation as a quality business. Character is one of the most important traits of a leader in the military, and it’s also a must for any ASP franchisee who wants to know how to start a pool cleaning service
  • Core Values: The values at the heart of each branch of the military are unique, but they all share a common focus on loyalty, duty, integrity, and service before self. These values become a part of each hero who serves our country, which is another reason why veterans make some of the best franchisees. Loyalty to the brand and keeping a sense of duty to your company (and customers) are essential to running a strong franchise. Honesty and trustworthiness are something that pool owners are attracted to when looking for a recommended pool service company. Furthermore, when franchise owners put their team and their client’s needs before their own, it engenders relationships that will benefit the business and last for years to come.

Read Franchisee Reviews

The Franchise Business Review lists America’s Swimming Pool Company as one of the top companies for franchisee satisfaction. If you are a veteran looking for an opportunity to utilize your military skills and training in the business world, reading the testimonials of ASP franchisees can help you in your consideration of how to start a pool cleaning service

James King is an experienced ASP franchise owner who served in the Navy for 4 years and spent 26 years in the Marine Corps. He now owns an ASP franchise in Springfield, VA. King shares how his training in the services has been an asset during his transition to the pool industry:

“I began looking for franchise opportunities while I was still active on duty in the Marine Corps, and looked at every option out there. I wanted an opportunity where I can own my own business while still applying my mechanical skills from being a KC-130 pilot. ASP seemed like the perfect opportunity where I can utilize my skills in the swimming pool industry.”

Military veterans looking for new business opportunities – look no further!

ASP – America’s Swimming Pool Company, the nation’s leading swimming pool maintenance, repair, and renovation franchise, is happy to announce their placement in Military Times: Best Franchises 2018. ASP made its way to the top of the rankings, coming in as the #6 Franchise Business for 2018.

“We are honored to have veterans among the ranks of our franchisees,” said Stewart C. Vernon, Founder and CEO of America’s Swimming Pool Company. “We want to be a resource and a helping hand for those veterans looking for new opportunities when transitioning from the military. ASP is always looking to hire more veterans as employees and help them realize the possibility of business ownership by offering veterans franchise incentives.”

Military Times is a trusted source for independent news and information for service members and their families. In summer 2017, Military Times invited ASP and other franchise brands across the country to fill out a rigorous survey about their company as well as their accommodations for military service members and veterans. In early 2018, only 53 made the cut to be included in the Military Times Best: Franchises 2018 list. Today, America’s Swimming Pool Company is proud to announce their placement as a Top 10 franchise opportunity for military veterans.

Military Times franchise rankings carefully evaluated the following:

  • Company culture
  • Investment quality
  • Overall franchising costs
  • Military discounts
  • Other non-financial supports, including support for franchisees in the National Guard and reserves

“The franchise brands on this list make the extra effort for their veteran and military-connected franchisees,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings. “They earned their places on these rankings through their dedication to current and former service members, and their efforts should get the attention of veterans considering launching a franchise.”

ASP offers some of the best pool maintenance business opportunities for transitioning service members and veterans. For the past two years, ASP has awarded one qualified military veteran the chance to have their full franchise fee waived through the ASP Veteran Program. This veteran franchise opportunity also offers franchise discounts up to 15 percent off the start-up fee for any qualified military veteran who becomes an owner. All transitioning service members and veteran entrepreneurs can apply by filling out a short form at ASPfranchising.com/veterans.

top franchise for veterans 2017

ASP – America’s Swimming Pool Company is excited to announce its inclusion to the 2017 Top Franchises for Veterans Ranking by Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500. ASP is ranked number 60 of the top 150 franchises offering incentives and other programs to help veterans become franchisees.

“We are honored to be recognized on such a respected level,” said Stewart C. Vernon, Founder and CEO of ASP. “We are also proud to offer one qualified military veteran the support they need to start their own business through our 2017 ASP Veteran Program.”

The ASP Veteran Program is a nationwide program specifically geared to award an America’s Swimming Pool Company franchise to one qualified military veteran each year. Since 2015, ASP has accepted a new batch of applications each year for the annual ASP Veteran Program. Any U.S. military veteran is qualified to enter the nationwide competition, which includes written essays and one-on-one interviews at the Macon, Georgia headquarters. Each year, ASP waives the franchise fee for the veteran who is selected as the winner – an average value of more than $65,000 (actual value varies by market). Visit ASPfranchising.com/Veterans to learn more about the program and fill out the entry form. Deadline Extended – applications for the 2017 ASP franchise giveaway will be accepted until November 30th.

“We are constantly looking for those individuals who have served our country and are now searching for a business opportunity to take them to the next level,” said Jef E. Flournoy, VP of Franchise Sales & Development at ASP.

The team at ASP chooses to honor veterans because they represent some of the nation’s most hard-working, unselfish, and committed individuals. Entrepreneurship is ideal for veterans, and an ASP Franchise makes sure they aren’t working on this venture on their own–instead, an ASP franchise provides its franchise owners with the tools and support necessary for a successful swimming pool business in their chosen territory.

How were the 2017 Top Franchises for Veterans rankings determined?

Entrepreneur Magazine invited Franchise 500 ranked companies, that offer a veteran incentive, to participate in a survey designed to help them learn more about each company’s veteran program. From there, they developed a ranking of the top 150 franchises for veterans, taking into account each company’s veteran incentive, how veteran franchisees are attracted to and supported by the company, and how each company scored in the 2017 Franchise 500.

As the leading pool cleaning franchise, you can rest assured you won’t regret joining us as a franchisee. After the incredible sacrifices, you as a veteran have made for this nation, it is our turn to give you something back–you can be an independent business owner while jumping into a franchise at the height of its success. Looking for the right opportunity when transitioning out of the military? Consider owning a franchise.

Veterans make excellent candidates as franchise business owners because of their commitment, trustworthiness, and unmatched determination to succeed. Owning a franchise is an appealing business opportunity for veterans because experts are there to help along each step, and don’t have to go at self-employment alone.

Becoming a franchisee allows you to be your own boss without having to sacrifice solid support!

If you have ever considered entrepreneurship and owning a franchise has piqued your interest, here are some questions to ask yourself to help you decide which franchise to purchase.
1. What type of industry would I enjoy working in?
2. Does the franchise offer financial incentives for veterans?
3. Can I purchase and plan my launch date before I transition from the military?
4. Will I have the support I need?
5. What is the revenue potential?
6. Is this the best option for my future and the future of my family?
7. Can I own more than one franchise unit?
8. How satisfied are the current franchise owners?

The perfect franchise opportunity is out there! The best way to find it is by first determining what you enjoy doing the most and what’s the best option for your family.

“We have franchise owners from just about every branch of the military,” said Stewart C. Vernon, Founder and CEO of ASP. “Since franchising ASP in 2005, we have discovered that military members are accountable multi-taskers who thrive when following a proven plan. Our veteran franchisees tell us they love service-based franchise models, like ours at ASP, because they have a structure in place, a set of rules to follow, and a need to fulfill a duty – just like the military.
